Como Zoo Scavenger Hunt with Minnesota Au Pairs

Minnesota Au Pairs Flock to Como Zoo

July 24, 2011

Over 40 au pairs and their friends filled Como Zoo in St. Paul, MN with blue hearts for Cultural Care and Kids First! The group raised $400 towards The Cultural Care Kids First Foundation! “Drawing on the strength of the global community of Cultural Care Au Pair, [Kids First] provides resources to support organizations that strive to make a lasting difference in the lives of children in need around the world.”

The event began at the West Picnic Grounds where the au pairs checked in and formed their teams. They were given a list of over 60 clues and tasks to complete within two hours to earn points toward prizes for their teams. The clues took them around the zoo and Como Town amusement park. By the time they were done they knew answers to questions about the state of Minnesota – like what is the state flower (The Lady Slipper), and the state bird (The Loon). They also knew what animal stands side by side facing opposite directions due to blind spots in their vision (Zebras), and what animal’s roar can be heard 5 miles away (Snow Leopard). They met zookeepers and local police officers (just to get autographs) and took photos of their teams with the giraffes.

The team that scored the most points this year was the Blue Eagles and they won passes to Valleyfair Amusement Park. The team consisted of Kim Lobert, Hannah Moll, Julia Rehcsuar, and Becka Wagner. The 2nd place team was the Girls with Hearts team, and third place was Europa. Congratulations to all our winners!

The event was hosted by the Minnesota team of Cultural Care Au Pair Local Childcare Coordinators: Sonja , JeanAnn and Dennis, Lara, Shelley, Anna, Gosia, Chris, Lynda, and Tracie Kapau A special thank you to Cub Foods for donating the bottled water and cookies for this event.
